EDINBORO PICKED 13TH IN PSAC WOMEN’S LACROSSE PRESEASON POLL

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference today announced the 2019 PSAC Women’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Preseason Poll. Edinboro is picked to finish 13th in the conference.

Defending champion West Chester is the preseason favorite. The Golden Rams picked up 10 first place votes from the league’s coaches. East Stroudsburg received the other three first votes and is picked to finish second. Mercyhurst, the 2018 PSAC runner-up, is third.

First-year coach LeighAnn Stauffer takes over an Edinboro squad that battled injuries a year ago, finishing at 3-13 overall while going 0-12 in PSAC action. Stauffer served as a graduate assistant coach for the Fighting Scots a year ago, and inherits a young squad that features 15 first or second-year performers. Of the returning players, five started all 16 matches, three started 15, and two started 14.

Edinboro welcomes back Anna Leva, who was on a record-setting pace before going down with a season-ending injury. The redshirt freshman played in just five matches, but totaled 20 goals and 10 assists. She would finish second on the team in scoring with 30 points.

Another 2018 freshman, Sophie DePalma, emerged as the leading scorer with 28 goals and 10 assists for 38 points.

Candace McDole starts in goal. The sophomore started all 16 matches in goal as a freshman. She set the school record for saves with 222, which ranked second in Division II. She also ranked second in the country in saves per games (13.88), and was fifth in save percentage at .520, which is a new school record.

Edinboro will play its first match under Stauffer on Sunday, February 24, hosting Walsh at Sox Harrison Stadium at 1 p.m.
